Personal Style Zone

Personal Style Zone

So, in my last post I talked about making prudent fashion choices within your Personal Style Zone. But how do you know what your personal style zone is?

This technique code help.

I’m a big believer in creating mood boards, literally tearing pages out of magazines or printing things off the internet that I like the look of, then pinning them to a foam core board. Pinterest is great for collecting ideas too, but I must say when I’m working to put a range together as a designer, the old-school pin board works better for me than Pinterest because I can shuffle images around into groups and start to create themes or stories. And I think this is a very useful tool in terms of getting to know your personal style.

I like to do this once a season when the weather changes and I want to change the way I look at my wardrobe. I collect and tear out or print off my inspiration from catalogues, instagram, magazines etc. and build up a big story board on the inside of my wardrobe door. (In this case I just use blu-tack to stick my pictures up instead of pins}. Often 3 or 4 themes “pop out” at me - last summer I was going for a boyish / classic / artistic look. When I got stuck for something to wear and didn’t want to fall back on my “go to” outfit (again) I looked at my inspo wall and thought yeah, I reckon I can pull together something like that.

Give yourself an afternoon to go through this exercise. I bet you will find new ways of wearing your current clothes and go a bit deeper into understanding your individual style - it can be really exciting and rewarding to shop your own wardrobe!

If you’re feeling stuck with this but would like to give it a try, then it’s a good idea to call on a personal stylist like myself. In a session, we would talk about how you want to look - and maybe more importantly, how you want to be perceived - and start to refine your ideas until we have a very clear picture of where you want to take your image. Truly a wise fashion investment.

Happy inspo hunting!

cheers, Ann
